The recent incorporation of financial literacy topics as part of the primary and secondary education curricula in Spain (LOMCE), PISA’s financial competency assessment, the recommendations of the European Commission and the OECD and the proliferation of private and public initiatives worldwide, are proof that the ability to manage one’s money is now considered a core life skill, essential for participating in modern society. International recommendations point to the need to teach financial literacy in the classroom and from an early age.
However, many teachers may lack specific training and/or high quality resources to teach these subjects. There are also questions about exactly what and how to teach. This course will provide a solid foundation in core financial literacy concepts, giving primary school teachers the knowledge and confidence needed to teach personal finance in their classrooms. We will also discover and develop teaching resources to help incorporate these topics across a range of subjects and learning opportunities within their school’s curriculum.
In addition, all coursework and activities will be in English, providing an excellent opportunity for primary school teachers to practice and improve their language skills, while learning how to guide their students toward responsible financial behaviour now and in the future.
